چکیده

The combination of high speed multi-service networks and multimedia workstations offers considerable potential for the development of distributed multimedia applications. However, many challenges remain before this potential can be realised. One key challenge is how to integrate continuous media types such as audio and video into a distributed workstation environment. This paper describes an experimental system architecture based on a specialised multimedia network interface that attempts to provide this integration. The design and implementation of this system is discussed in depth in terms of workstation enhancement and distributed system support. A new approach to the problem of media synchronisation is introduced, and the importance of Quality of Service in the architecture is highlighted. The paper also relates our experiences from this work, compares it with other approaches and outlines our views on likely future developments in multimedia network interfacing.

On the Displacement-Stress Continuous Finite Elements

For the analysis of composite media, three different compatible and mixed finite element formulations are presented which apriori enforce the continuity of stresses as well as displacements at the element interfaces. The formulations are applied for the analysis of hi-material interfaces in two problems often encountered in the field of orthopaedic biomechanics, that is the fixation analysis in...

TCP-CM: A Transport Protocol for TCP-friendly Transmission of Continuous Media

We propose a new TCP-friendly transport protocol, called TCP-CM, for the continuous media applications over the Internet. TCP-CM is a direct modification of the TCP to support continuous media applications without compromising the congestion control feature of the TCP, which is critical to the stable functioning of the Internet. We design TCP-CM API to be compatible to the BSD socket interface,...

Robot control system using SMR signals detection

One of the important issues in designing a brain-computer interface system is to select the type of mental activity to be imagined. In some of these systems, mental activity varies with user intent and action that must be controlled by the brain-computer system, and in a number of other signals, the received signals contain the same activity-related mental activity that should be performed by t...
